So come to the end of the first week here,...
Lots of cool people out here and a really good community going on which is a win, quite hard to remember everyone's names though, ah i'll get there. Had a lot of chats through the week about where is decent to board, how to get into italy or switzerland on a snowboard, avalanche survival gear and courses, the stories of the Aiguille du Midi and the crazy backcountry stuff starting with the ice bridge of death, followed by amazing vast open mountain till you get to all the cravas areas and stick with your guide like glue, or possibly end up falling into 500 meter deep ravine's...scary...maybe not quite yet. Probably about the same time im ready for heliboarding come feb/march
Bars here really cool, people all very friendly, had a good set of laughs so far and got a little drunk a few times and am deffinetely suffering for it today, ah but was worth it i tells ya.
Deffinetely liking the life. Back to lounging now Mon, 9th Nov. 2009, 18:32 France day 1
So woke up at 4am to shower and pack my wash stuff etc before my parents arrived to drive me out to brizzle airport...sad I didnt get to see everyone I wanted to and say goodbye's properly, just ran out of time or messed up my chances to do so...ah well.
Got to bristol without too much bother, checked in bags and found my weighing of my suitcase last night wasnt exactly accurate, both my snowboard bag and suitcase were over my allowance by like 7kg between them so had to fork out £10 per extra kilo, what did they expect? I neeeeeeeed a million clothes and stuff and things! My mum offered to pay and I gratefully refused but my dad slipped me £50 anyway when I went to change some cash. Tbh my parents are amazing anyway and was really nice that I got to see them and not get a bus on my own there...
Flight was quick and painless as always to Geneva, saw some snow on the higher fields and got my luggage out in record time and into the car to come up here. Some really lovely autumn forest scenery, lots of vivid coloured leaves on the trees, crystal (though freezing looking) rivers and of course huge mountaints topped in snow where the clouds wernt hiding them.
Chalet is really cool, room isnt huge but is lovely and warm and comfy, just need to work out where to put everything and try not to mess up the en suite. Has a nice big wooden terrace outside on the first story looking over the garden of this massive old delapadated house that looks like it belongs in harry potter, oh and if i look left or right I can see the snowy foresty hights up to about 4000 meters, including some of the lower slopes that have started to have a bit of snow on them too!
The town seems pretty quiet atm this early in the season, met a bunch of people already as Laura walked me round to show me some cool shops and what bars are any good. Sharing a room with Tom from sweeden when he gets here on Thursday, I need to decide before then if I want the top or bottom bunk,...all in all feeling pretty cool and positive and looking forwards to going out later and seeing some more of this place.
Foolishly forgot the cable that connects my phone to my laptop so cant upload pictures, maybe will find one lying around, or get a french phone with one.
Still receiving texts as normal, but recieving calls costs me money, and none of my free minutes or txts work booo, hence getting french sim card at least. Bit sad that cant share this with you guys n the girl I wanted to, ah well. Ce'la vi
So Monday I fly out to Geneva and from there head up into Chamonix town in the French Alps,...going to be a bit of a scary ride and the first time since Uni that I picked up and went somewhere really unknown but this is a little bit further.
Feeling apprehensive, but also quite excited, have had a bit of a shitty week at home, but seen how awesome my mates are yet again and sad things ended with my girl, but I guess it means a completely fresh start out in the snow.
Knowing how crazy fast updates wizz by on facebook im going to try to make an active effort to keep a journal of how im doing out there, what its like and the works.
In preperation this week I have washed a billion bits of clothing and packed them away neatly, got my suitcase out of the shed, spent "some" money on new snowboarding gear trying to not get carried away, spend time just thinking about stuff and getting ready for the move, and fielding calls from mates checking I am ok which is lovely...oh and spent waaaay too long looking at long stay travel insurance, sending off for my EHIC card, checking my sports insurance stuff n finding things I need to do.
Have toyed with the idea of going up to the Unicorns event on friday to see people I havnt already, but I need to see my family n will probably have a few drinks out in Cardiff on saturday night n try not to be as emo as last week, n love to see anyone who's still about for some fun goodbyeness
EDIT: and its started snowing out there now :)
So this weekend is Halloweeeeeen again and no more hordes of dead pirates, tho we did always look amazing.
The vague plan seems to be hanging out, going out to a bunch of pubs and ending up in a club full of similarly mentally dressed types...imagine people will want to goto Bogiez, cant say I wouldnt mind a last trip to Metros but can wing it...
People are variously dressing as Rats, Neverware kind of stuff, alice in wonderland or anything random people fancy and can manage..
Anyone coming down that wants crash space hope we can squeeze everyone in various places, be very cool to see mates before moving out to France Mon, 19th Oct. 2009, 13:51 Candlestone

So Chris 'Purple ninjawa fae warrior' Baron asked if I could post this up and see if people have a few minutes to try help kate get a break
im guessing its something to do with ROLL-A-MA-PLAY :)
Hi all
A friend of mine Kate Evans who plays Gerogie in the Urchins in the Harts Faction has managed to get herself into the last 4 of a competition to win an all expenses paid trip to Gencon USA (Probably the best roleplay convenion out there).
The last step of the competition comes down to public votes, so this is a shameless beg for any of you who have a few minutes to head on over and vote for me if you feel so inclined.
The website is www.tellmeaboutyourcharacter.co.uk and you will need to vote for her character, Renette
You do need to register before you can vote but this only takes about 30 seconds and your information will be deleted as soon as the competition ends so you won't get any spam, etc.
Voting is done in a knockout style tournament, so if all goes well and she gets through this round I would ask you all to pop back to the site on tomorrow to help get her through the final and win.
Needless to say this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I would be eternally grateful to anyone who wouldn't mind helping her grab hold of it!
If you could please ask any of your friends, relatives, neighbours, people you meet on the bus, etc etc to vote for her I will be eternally grateful!
Cheers
Chris Barron Thu, 25th Jun. 2009, 10:52 Tunics
One of the traders at GEF had some really nice but simple tunics in different colours, looked like decent material...think I may have seen some harts in them...
if i remember rightly they were next to big rich's stall...any idea who they were?
EDIT: looking at the darkblade site its similar, but the one I had in mind was one of the smaller stalls I think, possibly without much weapons and available in white... Fri, 19th Jun. 2009, 22:48 Armour

You Are 100% Evil
|

You're the most evil person you know.
The devil is even a little scared of you!
|
Although I changed a few things....notably "You've looked at nudie pics at an event (ic I would add)" "You've sent prank messages/posted them" "You've taken the piss out of bards/jesters or stabbed them up cos of what they were" "You enjoy very violent games/pasttimes" "You've shot a magebolt at someone's face,...and liked it" taff is however only
You Are 72% Evil
|

You are very evil. And you're too evil to care.
Those who love you probably also fear you. A lot.

Naaaaaaaahhht Breeds :( nuff said again Confusion, not understanding, seeing mates so upset Monsters trying to finish loccing people rather than defend themselves while being wailed on

It appears not to be with the rest of my kit
EDIT: Found it eventually after searching through all my larp kit, under the stairs, in all the boxes and bags of larp kit in the shed etc
it had been "tidied away" by my helpful brother, to BEHIND(!) the washing machine....helpful |
